Pau Ferro
Clients have long asked for the WAVE in Ebony, Boxwood, and Rosewood models, but due to sustainability and health-in-processing issues, we have up to now stayed with a favorite of ours, African Padauk.
Our search for alternative woods that offer the color, tonal advantages, and durability of the traditional choices has led us to some excellent results, and we can now proudly offer the WAVE in Ebony, Rosewood, and Boxwood colors.
The wood we have chosen for Ebony and Rosewood is Pau Ferro, also known as Morado. A South American wood, it is widely used by guitar luthiers as a replacement for the endangered Rosewoods, and its sustainability is listed as being a Species of Least Concern.
Along with a similar appearance to Rosewood, it is also a superb replacement for Ebony, as it accepts a durable colorization and turns truly black.
Most important, though, is the sound. Its full, deep resonance can enhance any instrument, and has proven a joy to work with.
We hope that it will gain acceptance as a truly viable alternative to both Ebony and Rosewood, and that you will enjoy using it as much as we enjoy working with it.
